La Independencia de México

The month of September marks the beginning of a new chapter in Mexican history – on the 16th of September 1810 Miguel Hidalgo is believed to have made the cry of independence – in Mexico called ‘El Grito de Dolores’ as it happened in the town of Dolores, in the Mexican state of Guanajuato – which set Mexico free of the Spanish ruling.

Mexican Independence Day is celebrated all across the country during this month, with parades, music, fireworks and of course, food! As an authentic Mexican restaurant, El Gusano Taqueria could not let this special day go unnoticed, so we have a special line up of events happening throughout the month of September to celebrate “La Independencia de Mexico”.

Independence Day Lunch:

Chef Colin Church has created a special menu to celebrate Mexican Independence Day. Filled with the Mexican colours found in the traditional dishes during the celebrations – like Chile en Nogada – and some of El Gusano Taqueria’s best sellers, this one-day-only menu is available between 12pm and 4pm on Sunday, 15/09 – subject to availability, bookings essential. To book call 9043-1217 or find your preferred time via our booking system on our website.

Piñata workshop:

A fun event for the young and young at heart. Learn with our great Mexican friend Marissa Noriega how to make the traditional star shaped piñata, popular in every birthday celebration all around the world!!!

All profits will be donated to the Life’s Little Treasures Foundation and their programs to help families with premature and sick babies in NICUs. To find out more visit lifeslittletreasures.org.au
